Tea House glossary

Sadouguchi ( 茶道口 ) (Door used by the host only to enter the Chashitsu) : This sliding door is called a Fusuma and is standard in old Japanese houses. Sliding doors have been used for hundreds of year in Japan because of the advantages in room design and feeling of space.

Tokonoma () (Alcove) : An alcove in the tea room where the hanging scroll is hung and flowers are displayed.
